In a world full of content-creation platforms, where YouTube, Instagram and TikTok are far more popular, convenient and addictive ways to create content, why write a blog like it’s 2008?
Well, I have my reasons.
And if you have a shy personality like me, you might actually understand why writing can be a pretty damn good way to put yourself out there.
Have I Written Before?
Honestly, yes.
I’ve had the opportunity to own a few content blogs, and I’ve also worked as a lead content writer and blog manager. I genuinely loved writing. There was something satisfying about taking an idea sitting inside your head and turning it into something another person could read.
Then AI happened.
Suddenly, writing changed. Why hire an entry-level writer like me when you could type a command into ChatGPT and get a ridiculously good article in seconds?
For a while, it felt like a door had closed.
But I’m learning that when one door closes, another one usually opens.
Why Not Instagram or YouTube?
Oh man, have I tried.
I already have around 1,000 followers on my personal Instagram account. And every single time I thought about posting a video, approximately 10X the number of thoughts occupied my head.
Is this good enough?
What will people think?
Does this make me look stupid?
Should I post this?
Maybe I should edit it a little more.
Eventually, it started feeling like I owed something to those people.
And that’s something I could never really accept.
I didn’t want an audience that already knew me to feel like they owned a little piece of me.
So I tried something else.
I thought, why not create an alternative Instagram account where nobody knows me?
Problem solved, right?
Nope.
I simply replaced one problem with another: perfectionism.
It has to be good.
It has to be different.
It has to be better.
This should be my grand entry into the content-creation world.
And suddenly, I was back to doing nothing.
Stupid, right?
I was giving myself so much importance that I couldn’t even start.
So I Said, “Fuck It.”
Eventually, I thought:
Why not just go back to something I already know?
My mind said, Sydhnt ” write a blog” ,
So that’s what I’m doing.
I can write what I want. I can use ChatGPT to help me improve it. And then I can leave it to Google to show my writing to whoever actually wants to read it.
Maybe I’ll organically find people who think like me.
Maybe I’ll find people who are interested in my life.
Maybe nobody will read it.
And honestly?
I’m okay with all three.
There is something incredibly liberating about removing the expectations of the people you already know.
I don’t have to become SYDHNT — THE CONTENT CREATOR.
I don’t have to announce my arrival.
I don’t have to create a strategy around what people will like.
Right now, I’m simply writing what I feel like writing.
Almost like a public personal diary.
No expectations.
No justification.
No pressure.
Maybe That’s What I Needed
One thing I know about myself is that I’m somewhat of a lone wolf.
If I enter a race where I’m constantly trying to create something for someone else, I’ll probably exhaust myself before I even reach the finish line.
But if I create something because I genuinely believe in it, I know I’ll give it everything.
That’s when I become useful.
That’s when I become creative.
That’s when I can actually become an asset.
Will I eventually try Instagram and YouTube again?
Hell yes.
I’m already practicing.
I’m learning how to talk to a camera, how to make my voice sound smoother, how to edit basic videos and how to become better at the craft.
I know the obvious advice:
“Stop waiting for the perfect start.”
“Just start.”
“Don’t dream it, do it.”
And you’re probably right.
But for someone like me, the battle isn’t simply about pressing the record button.
There is a shy, introverted version of me jumping left, right and centre inside my body every time I think about putting myself out there.
So I’m working on it.
Slowly.
I’m learning.
And, of course, I’m consuming an unhealthy amount of coffee to keep that shy guy calm.
For now, though, I’m writing.
And honestly, it feels pretty damn good.
If you’ve ever felt the same way — wanting to create, but getting trapped inside your own head — I’d genuinely love to hear from you.
Tell me what worked for you.
Tell me what didn’t.
Suggestions are welcome too.
I’m doing this out of passion now.
And having a small community around that passion would be lovely.
